Hypertune email flows: what's there now, and the rebuild with new copy

Every flow now, and the rebuild with new copy · 25 September 2026

From Vinson · 25 September 2026 · for Austin, Gavin, Kamil and the design team

This is the flow-by-flow companion to the email plan: who does what. For each flow it shows what is live today, what the numbers say, and the replacement: trigger, timing, and the full copy for every email. Gavin builds from this page. The design team builds the two templates from the plan. Kamil supplies the data marked Needs Kamil.

Summary

1. The buttons go to Discord, a tutorial video or "finish setting up", not to the action.

2. The words are inside images, so with images off most emails are blank.

3. People get the wrong email: trial emails go to people who never chose a trial, trial cancellers are told they "canceled your subscription", and the cancel emails written for each reason have never sent.

1. Most people who sign up and don't buy are not in Klaviyo at all. Of 50 randomly picked Stripe accounts that never started a trial or paid, 49 were not in Klaviyo. Stripe added 8,179 such accounts in September to the time of this audit. They never get a single email.

2. About 6% of paying customers are suppressed in Klaviyo (6 of a random 100), about 480 people. Every live message is currently marketing, so a suppressed profile gets none of them. Details are in the trial users report.

Rules for every flow

  1. Sender: "Austin from Hypertune". Reply-to: an inbox someone reads, because several emails invite a reply.
  2. One button, one destination. Any image links to the same place. No social icon row. The footer holds support, "Manage or cancel your plan" and unsubscribe.
  3. Live text only, under 90 words, "Hi there" when there's no first name, in the founder note or account notice template from the plan.
  4. Exit on Successfully Paid wherever the job is a payment, and Successfully Paid as the conversion metric on every email.
  5. Tag every link: utm_source=klaviyo&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=<flow>&utm_content=<email number>.
  6. Smart Sending off for account notices (failed payment, trial ending, renewal) and for any email that follows another by minutes; on for everything else.
  7. Transactional status for failed payment, trial ending and renewal emails. Once Klaviyo approves a message as transactional, it can reach profiles manually suppressed from marketing. Gavin confirms which suppression reasons still block delivery. Smart Sending does not apply to an approved transactional message.
  8. Never type a price or date. They come from profile or event data.

1. Failed payment

IB // Stripe payment failed -- · Un6Nkh

Now

Triggers on every failed payment, with no re-entry rule, so each Stripe retry starts it again. The flow logged 26,802 message recipients in 90 days. That is a send count across its messages, not 26,802 unique people.

EmailSent (90 days)ClickedWhat it is

Day 1 · "Some ways you can still enjoy Hypertune"13,1765 (0.04%)"Feel like there's a mistake? Join Discord", over a screenshot of Discord.
Day 2 · "Enjoy a free month of Hypertune"820Only reaches people declined for insufficient funds. Old red design. Everyone else leaves the flow on day 2.

Klaviyo credits this flow with 176 payments ($1,258.40) against 31 clicks. The payment count exceeding the click count is consistent with Stripe's automatic retries succeeding; it does not show that the emails caused the payments.

It also catches trials whose first charge fails. 7,055 trial users have ended that way, and those people get the same Discord emails instead of a way to pay.

Needs Kamil: installer link; an app-run event for the day-2 split; trial end date, plan price and billing period on the profile. Keep a live flow filter for no trial cancellation since entering, so a cancelled trial cannot receive the ending notice.

The trigger is joining the segment "IB // Profiles", which is simply "can receive email". It is not a sign-up event. A new or newly unsuppressed profile can qualify, but a profile that already entered cannot re-enter under the once-ever flow setting.

The same five branches, wait, exit, re-entry and settings as the trial flow, but triggered by a paid subscription cancellation. Two differences: every email opens by thanking them for paying, and people on an early price are told what they lose.

Opening line for every branch:

Hi there,

>

Thanks for being a Hypertune subscriber. Your current plan end date is {{ person.plan_end_date }}.

Extra line for anyone on an early-bird price, only after Kamil confirms the restart rule:

You're on our early price. If you change your mind before {{ person.plan_end_date }}, you keep it. After that, rejoining is at today's price.

Button for that group: Keep my plan · Account. Everyone else gets the branch button from the trial flow.

Survey answers from paying subscribers since 21 August (718 answers): didn't give me performance 37%, not using it enough 21%, too expensive 19%, other 17%, ran into a bug 6%.

Build notes: the "too expensive" branch uses the same 50% copy, reworded from "trial" to "plan". Needs Kamil: plan end date and whether they're on an early-bird price, on the profile; confirm that a cancelled plan can be restarted before its end date at the same price.

Early-bird subscribers renew at $47.88 (Austin, 25 Sep). The amount still comes from the profile, never typed.

What gets deleted

Before anything is unsuppressed

  1. Switch off the old account-created flow first (see flow 3). Profiles who already entered it will not enter again under its current once-ever setup. Profiles who never entered can still join when unsuppression makes them qualify for the segment.
  2. Unsuppress every current paying customer (about 480), so they get failed-payment and renewal emails.
  3. Kamil: when a suppressed person starts a trial or pays, unsuppress them automatically. Today they are skipped by every flow.
